System-wide position as Centrally Assigned Principal of Instructional Innovation and Equitable Outcomes, Elementary and Secondary Math, Science/STEM, Robotics, and Arts (Dance, Drama, Music, Media and Visual Arts) at the Toronto District School Board.

Centrally Assigned Vice-Principal, Indigenous Education, Urban Indigenous Education Centre, 2017-2018

 

Centrally Assigned VP at the Urban Indigenous Education Centre supporting Indigenous-focus schools as well as Indigenous Education for all staff and students of the TDSB. Co-lead system projects (e.g., conferences, staff professional learning). Recruiting Indigenous Language Teachers and Cultures and Traditions Instructors in schools across Toronto and reducing barriers to hiring and accreditation in Toronto. Engaged community (e.g., Indigenous Education Advisory Council, Drum Socials). Chaired student success team through "Access to service" referrals (e.g., an all-Indigenous staff including Child and Youth Counsellor, Social Worker, Student Success Teacher, Student Engagement Teacher, Cultures and Traditions Instructor). UIEC also provides University certificate courses for teachers (e.g., ABQ in First Nations, Metis and Inuit Studies), curriculum and resource development (e.g., online modules, print). Worked with staff and Indigenous scholars on research (e.g., Ministry of Education Provincial Collaborative Inquiry), including Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) project that provided Combined Credit and Co-op credit programs for secondary students. Member of many local and provincial committees. Co-organized events and conferences (e.g., Walking with our Sisters installation, Indigenous Film Nights, Mental Health Conference). Supported the development of authentic Indigenous partners through a Partnership Process (e.g., artist roster, speakers' roster, etc.). Successful recipient of an Indigenous Language Fund Grant (Indigenous Education Office, Ministry of Education) which included multigenerational "Language Nests."

Co-developed a student interest program called CyberARTS which included Arts and Technology integrated across the curriculum (e.g., database development in math, storytelling through film and animation, coding in science) and also taught rotary Visual Arts, Instrumental Music (band). I was the Special Education Methods and Resources Teacher (MART) supporting student accommodations and use of various assistive technologies. I received the Elementary Teacher's Federation of Ontario's Multimedia Award for this work (2000) and also served as a CRRP demonstration classroom (Indigenous Education).

Ensuring the high quality and pedagogical integrity of online course materials, including: evaluating course overviews, activities, units, and multimedia storyboards, adhering to eLearning Ontario (eLO) project timelines, providing comprehensive direction and feedback on the pedagogical value of teaching and assessment strategies, enhancing the educational impact of course content, ensured all courses met strict eLO standards for formatting, content, assessment, evaluation, and pedagogy, and managed and met rigorous deadlines contributing to the timely launch of courses.

Supported K-12 teachers, and schools with system-wide and job embedded learning in a range of grades and programs (e.g., Visual and Media Arts); designed and implemented system-wide programs that supported School Improvement (e.g., through an action research-based teacher education model called Take Part Art).

Led consultations with stakeholders in collaboration with branch, ministry, inter-ministerial, national and international partners to inform policy development, renewal and implementation (e.g., Arts Curriculum Policy); monitored deliverables; analyzed large-scale complex educational issues, developed strategic solutions; led consultations, wrote curriculum policy; provided implementation support to school boards and other stakeholders (e.g., regional training sessions). Nominated for the Prix Realm Award for Innovation.

Webcast and Media Kit, Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat, Government of Ontario

• Assisted in creating up to 60 video segments, including formative and culminating activities, modelled differentiated instruction, and promoted inclusive education. Contributed to the content development and treatment of videos and the Viewers’ Guide, aiming to demonstrate exemplary instructional practices in Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Drama, and Media Arts for both elementary and secondary grades. Advised on curriculum focus for educational video segments, ensuring alignment with the revised The Arts, Grades 1-12 curriculum policy documents.

Determined project objectives for a series of sixty webcasts for dance, drama, music, visual and media arts

• Confirmed shooting locations (60% in GTA, 40% in other provincial regions).

Reviewed footage of promising practices from schools across the province and advising on curriculum focus for video segments, defined the intended audiences, messages, and learning outcomes
